BIG4 St Helens Pyengana to Weldborough Tour

This mini itinerary is for the keen explorer and would best suit those who have the time to complete it over a few days, however, all of the suggested places to see are just that - suggestions - so feel free to use this as a guideline and choose the places that interest you the most.

First on the list is Pyengana Dairy - The Tasmanian Food Company and the Farm Gate Cafe - which is the perfect place to have a morning coffee and a bite of world-class cheddar cheese while looking out over the stunning hills of Pyengana before continuing your journey to St Columba Falls.

These falls are some of Tasmania's tallest, standing at 90 metres (300ft) high from the Mount Victoria foothills to the valley of the South George River. The catchment area of over 4000 hectares (9880 acres) guarantees a continuous flow of water down the granite and you can see the beautiful falls from the car park. A short walking track makes easy access through a forest of tree ferns, sassafras and myrtle trees to a viewing platform right at the base of the falls.

Don't be fooled by how easy it is to walk down the track to the falls - walking back to the car is all uphill! You will definitely work up an appetite after this, so stopping in for lunch at one of Tassie's oldest pubs - Pub in the Paddock - is highly recommended. Here, you'll find Priscilla the beer drinking pig, who you can hand feed her very own special brew of beer after you've finished your meal.

From here, you can continue the drive up to the forgotten town of Weldborough - a picturesque village surrounded by a lush rainforest with many short walks running through, as well as the still charming Weldborough Historic Hotel, built in 1886.

The last place to explore is the magnificent Blue Tier Reserve, which passes through idyllic countryside of rolling green hills and is dotted with farms and dairy cows. In the reserve are a number of different walks and hikes, ranging from 20 minutes return to eight hours return. This place is just magic to explore and well worth exploring all of - if you have the time - because of the secret wonders hidden among the mountains; and the view from the top is just incredible.

On your way back to the wonderful BIG4 St Helens Holiday Park, if you have the energy and the need for some souvenirs, stop in at Shop in the Bush. This quaint little store has an abundance of antiques, books, tea sets, jewellery, and homemade soaps and jams. Browsing through some memorabilia from here is the perfect way to wind down after a big day of adventures.
